On Monday, January 21, the Thunder boys traveled to Royal Valley to take on the  Panthers. In the first quarter of the 8th-grade A-team, the Thunder boys jumped out to a quick start scoring 10 and holding the Panthers to only 2. In the second quarter, they loosened up too much though and ended the half, barely leading the Panthers 15-14.

After halftime, the Thunder jumped out ahead again scoring 7 and holding the Panthers to only 2 points once again, finishing the third quarter with a bigger lead, 22-16. The battle was on in the fourth quarter as the Panthers made a run for the game. The Thunder boys were outscored in the quarter but managed to hang on and get the victory, 24-21.

“Of course, I think every game I could do just a little bit more to become my best self in the game of basketball,” said Kace Kramer.

Right after the A-game, the 8th-grade B-team challenged the Panthers. Both teams got off to a quick start in the first quarter with the Thunder leading 10-8. Then in the second quarter, Royal Valley came out and tied the score at 14.

In the third quarter, the Thunder came out slow scoring 2 points, while the Panthers added 10, ending the quarter at 16-24 with the Thunder team trailing. Each team played good defense holding each other to 4 points in the final quarter to end the game 20-28, in a Thunder loss.

The 7th A-team jumped out to their usual good start scoring 16 and shutting Royal Valley out in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Thunder team increased their score to 31 while giving up only one point. They took a 30 point lead into the half time break.

The level of play by the Thunder boys did not decline in the third quarter. Offensively, they could not be stopped as the third quarter ended with the score of 55-3.  The Thunder team went on to get the victory with a final score of 62-6.

Cooper Scott said, “We did great and we stuck together as a team.”

The seventh-grade B-Team game started off pretty well for both teams as the first quarter score came to an end with the Thunder leading by two, 8-6.  Royal Valley came out stronger in the second quarter though tying the game at 12 to send it to half.

Coming into the second half, the Thunder came out strong to capture the lead, 20-14. Both teams scored several baskets in the fourth quarter, but the Thunder boys stayed in front of the Panthers to win the game 26-18.

The Thunder teams are starting to play some very intense games of basketball and hope to add a few more victories to their record.
