The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School students and staff filed into the gymnasium on Monday, January 7 for a jam-packed assembly. It started off with a simple introduction from Dr. Beck, then the cheerleaders took it away with a cheer. Volleyball coaches Mrs. Nikki Honeyman and Mrs. Lisa Holthaus came forward and said a few words about the 7th and 8th grade volleyball season. Coach Honeyman then asked for all the 8th-grade volleyball team to come forward. The team was presented with the Big 7 League Championship trophy! Coach Honeyman was then presented with a board of pictures in memory of the undefeated volleyball season that was a present from the team. To sum up the fall sports, videos of volleyball, cross country, and football were played.  The videos were made by some eighth-grade students in Multi-Media class.

Next up, the boys' basketball coach, Mr. Cory Bass came down and had all the boys' basketball team come forward. Coach Bass talked about their upcoming season and how he felt coming into the first game in the new league, The Big 7 League. The cheerleaders then asked for Garrett Huerter, Blake Stallbaumer, Will Heinen, Korbin Macke, and Isaac Lueger of 8th grade, and Carter Rottinghaus, Reid McKee, Josh Gonzalez, Dalton Childress, and Holden Bass of 7th grade to come forward and participate in a game called “Never Have I Ever.” The boys were asked several questions and had 10 chances before they were out. If they had not done what the question was asking, they had to put down a finger. It took several questions, and tying for first place was Isaac Lueger and Carter Rottinghaus.

“The pep rally game was very interesting!” said 5th grader, Jade Macke.

To close out the pep rally the cheerleaders led the whole school in the V-I-C-T-O-R-Y cheer. The judges that decided which class was the loudest was Coach Bass and Mr. Todd Krause. The class that gave the loudest victory cry was 2nd grade!

“My favorite part was winning the victory cheer!” said Madison Ward.

The students and staff at NCEMS wish the best of luck to the 2019 boys basketball players and coaches!
