NC Hosts Fun Run and Middle School Cross Country Meet

     Nemaha Central held a middle school cross country meet and fun run on Thursday, September 20. For the middle school, the girls and boys both started at 4:00 and ran a 2 mile stretch on the Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca. Nemaha Central had one girl competing, Elena Gonzalez. There were three boys competing for the Thunder, Joe Korber, Brandon Rogers, and Miles Carpenter. The team was up against runners from Axtell, Jefferson County North, Washington County, Wetmore, Centralia, Horton, Maur Hill-Mount, Hiawatha, Onaga, Riverside, Valley Heights, Atchison County, and Doniphan West.

    “It was really fun and I knew a lot of my opponents so that was really neat," said Miles Carpenter.

    In the eighth grade girls division, Elena placed sixth out of 9 runners with a time of 18:13. In the seventh grade division, Miles and Joe competited with 15 other runners. Miles was the first finisher for the NC boys. He placed sixth out of 17 competitors. His finishing time was 15:01.  Joe had a time of 17:26 that placed him at fourteenth. Brandon's time was 16:38, which placed him at seventh out of 10 runners in the eighth grade division.

    There was also a Fun Run, which is for the kids who are not old enough to participate at the middle school level yet. The Fun Run was an 800 meter run around the Spring Creek Golf Course. In the boys' division, all the top finishers were from NC. First place was Brady Koch, 2nd place was Kaden Peterson, followed by Layton Thomas in 3rd. The girl's 1st place runner was Laura Lierz from Hiawatha, 2nd place was Presley Lutz from SPPS, and 3rd place was Ava McKinley, also from SPPS.

    Congratulations to all the runners who endured the afternoon heat to compete in the meet!
