The first meet for the Nemaha Central Cross Country team took place on Saturday, September 1. The cross country team is made up of Brandon Rogers,  eighth grade; Joe Korber, seventh grade; and Elena Gonzalez, eighth grade. The manager for the NCMS cross country team is Miles Carpenter until he is able to participate.  The team is coached by Jon Thomas, who is also the high school cross country coach.

The Marysville course is tough to run. It has a lot of steep and long hills, but sometimes there is a downhill for the runners. Participating in the meet were runners from Riley County, Valley Heights, Marysville, Wabaunsee, Washington County, Horton, and Nemaha Central.  There were 33 boys and 16 girls competing at this middle school meet.  Brandon Rogers placed 15th for the boys with a time of 15:53. Joe Korber took 24th place out of the boys, with a time of 16:28. Elena Gonzalez took 12th place out of the girls, with a time of 19:12. This was a good first meet for NCMS cross country runners. The runners hope to improve their times throughout the season.

Joe Korber said, “The first race of the year was difficult and hilly but overall it was fun.”
