On Monday, February 5, the Nemaha Central Middle School scholars’ bowl team kicked off their season with the first meet at home. The scholars’ bowl team consists of 10 eighth graders and 15 seventh graders. NC has an A-team made up of eighth graders and the B-team is the seventh graders. Each regular season scholars’ bowl match consists of two halves that contain 16 questions. The questions are divided among 8 categories. There are three social science, three language arts, three math, three science, one fine arts, one sports, one miscellaneous, and one year-in-review question. The schools that were invited to the meet were Wetmore, Frankfort, and Troy.

    NC’s first opponent was Wetmore. NC’s A-team took their first win of the season beating Wetmore’s A-team 110-80. NC’s B-team was also victorious against Wetmore’s B-team with a score of 70-30. Next NC faced Frankfort. NC’s A-team took a big loss losing to Frankfort’s A-team 60-130. NC’s B-team beat Frankfort’s B-team 120-30. NC’s B-team played an additional game against Troy’s B-team. NC’s B-team emerged victorious beating them 90-50.

“It was fun to kick off the season with a bang and we didn't do too bad,” said eighth grader, Katelynn Scott.

“The B-team answered a lot of questions and did very well for their first time,” said seventh grader, Jaden Thomas.
