February 17, 2018

The second Scholars’ Bowl meet of the season for the Nemaha Central Middle School was held on Thursday, February 8. The participating schools were Nemaha Central, Saints Peter and Paul, Onaga, and Centralia.  With one meet already completed, the scholars were ready to challenge other schools in the Oregon Trail League.

The NC A-team, consisting of the 8th graders, played 3 total matches. The first match was against the SPPS A-team. NC won with a final score of 90-80. The second match was against Centralia’s A-team. Centralia prevailed, the score being 60-65. Finally, the NC A-team played Onaga’s A-team. NC again came a few points short, as the final score was 100-110.

“A lot of the questions were difficult, but I’m glad we pulled through against SPPS,” said Messiayah Nolte.

The B-team for NC, which is made up of the 7th graders, faced the SPPS B-team first. NC won the close match 70-60. Next, NC challenged Centralia, with a final score of 50-90, leaving NC in a downfall. The NC B-team’s last opponent was Onaga’s B-team. Onaga drubbed NC, with a score of 40-110.

“I loved going against our town rival, SPPS. It was a great experience,” said Cooper Hajek.
