On Monday, December 4, the Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team hosted the Falls City Tigers. The Nemaha Central C-team played first. The C-team played an outstanding first quarter outscoring the Tigers 5-2. In the second quarter, the Thunder team shut down the Tigers not letting them score any points. The score at halftime was 7-2 with a Thunder lead. Even though the NC boys knew that they were up five points, there was going to be a long fight ahead of them. As the halftime break ended the Thunder were ready for the final half of the game. The Thunder team got off to a good start by scoring a layup in the opening seconds of the quarter. However, the Tigers were able to outscore the Thunder in the third quarter 6-4. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 11-8 with the Thunder team still in the lead. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Thunder had a rocky start by giving up 4 points. The Thunder team was having a difficult time scoring points. As the buzzer went off, the Thunder boys ended up losing the game, 13-14. It was a heartbreak loss for the Thunder to lose by only one point.

“I think that everybody's effort was great even though we came up short,” said Jack Holthaus.

The second game of the night was the boys B-team game. The Thunder started off with a rough first quarter giving up 11 points. The score at the end of the first quarter was 11-7 in favor of the Tigers. In the second quarter, the Thunder outscored the Tigers 6-5, making the score at halftime 16-13 with the Thunder trailing. The Thunder had a poor third quarter only scoring two points. The score at the end of the third quarter was  23-15 with the Tigers still in control. The Thunder boys knew that they needed to make a comeback. However, the Thunder fell short and at the end of the fourth quarter, the score was 29-23. This was the first loss for the B-team boys this season.

“I thought that I could have played better and the team could have played better too,” said Blake Stallbaumer.

The last game of the night was the boys A-team game.  The Thunder started out very strong scoring 15 points in the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Thunder team had the lead 15-7. During the second quarter, the Tigers were having a hard time scoring. The Thunder team dominated the court and added 12 points to their score while the Tigers only scored 4 points. The score at the end of the second quarter was 27-11 with the Thunder team leading the game. In the third quarter, both teams slowed down on offense. The Thunder only scored 5 points and the Tigers were able to get 3 points making the score 32-14. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers made a big impact. The Tigers were able to score more points in the final quarter than they did in all three of the earlier quarters. Even with all the points added, the Thunder team was still victorious in the game with a final score of 39-29.

“I think our team played well. This game we played our best defense,” said Ryan Luger.
