The Axtell A-team volleyball tournament took place on Saturday, September 9. The Nemaha Central Middle School attended this tournament along with SPPS, Axtell, Doniphan West, Frankfort, and Valley Heights.  The tournament was set up in a Round Robin format so that every team would play each other.  The first team that NC faced was SPPS. NC recently played against SPPS and was victorious in the match. This time however, the Trojans got the win with scores of 23-25 and 8-25.The next team that NC went up against was Doniphan West.  The Thunder team played well outscoring the Mustangs 25-20 in both sets.  The last team the Thunder faced before the break was Frankfort.  The Frankfort Wildcats gave the team a 3-set battle, but the Thunder girls were able to hold them off in third set to get the win with scores of 25-20, 15-25, and 15-11.  The teams then took a break for lunch.

During the lunch break the girls ate lunch and participated in team bonding activities. The tournament resumed and the next opponent they faced was Axtell. The Thunder team played well together getting the win against Axtell 25-15 in the first set, and 25-10 in the second set. Once they finished the Axtell game, they played Valley Heights. Valley Heights won both sets.  The first set was close, but the Thunder team was unable to get the victory as they lost the set 23-25. In the second game, The NC girls had a difficult time keeping it together as they dropped this set 16-25. The NC Thunder team finished third place in the tournament with a 3-2 record for the tournament.

Taryn Bergman said, "I think our team played excellent and I think the tournament was a really good experience for all of us and we had a lot of fun doing it."

"We could have done better against SPPS, but we came back strong and beat Frankfort," said Addy Holthaus.
