On an early morning on Saturday, September 2, the Nemaha Central Middle School cross country team headed to Marysville for their first meet of the season. Last year, the seventh grade athletes could only run a distance of 1 mile, but they decided to change the distance this year to 2 miles. This year, the NCMS cross country runners are Isaac Lueger, Jack Holthaus, Owen Carpenter, Brandon Rogers, Elena Gonzalez, and Henriette Yemba.

Finishing first for the NCMS Thunder team was Isaac with a time of 15:06 to claim sixth place.  Brandon and Jack  battled for the second place finish on the team. Brandon claimed thirteenth place with a time of 18:32 and Jack finished right behind him in fourteenth place with a time of 18:34. Next Elena finished the race with a time of 19:36 placing sixteenth.  Finishing out the runners for NCMS was Owen with a time of 20:08 receiving seventeenth place.

Brandon Rogers said, "I think that I did a pretty good job considering it was my first meet ever. It was also my best time for running 2 miles."

Jon Thomas said, "I was very pleased with all 5 middle school runners' performances considering this was each runner's first experience at running a competitive 2 mile.  On top of the new distance for seventh graders, it was run on possibly the toughest course we will run on all season."
