On Wednesday, May 3, the Nemaha Central Middle School 4th graders took a field trip to the Jesse James Museum and House. Jesse James is an American outlaw, bank and train robber, guerrilla gang leader, and murderer. The James brothers had their own gang who committed crimes for several years. James was shot to death by a member of his own gang, Robert Ford, who wanted to collect a reward on his head.
The 4th grade class got to learn about the life of Jesse James and what led up to his shooting. At the museum they rode on a carousel, got to buy things from the gift shop, rode on a train, went on a scavenger hunt, used catapults, and learned that the museum used to be a hotel. At the museum the 4th grade class got to see the very bullet that James was shot with. Throughout the trip, they were learning everything about Jesse that led up to his shooting and how he affected Kansas history.
"The field trip was fun because we got to learn all about Jesse James," said Will Nolte.
"The field trip was very interesting. We saw lots of cool exhibits including the house he died in. We saw a lot of different things and experienced something amazing," said Alyana Scism.
