The Nemaha Central Scholars’ bowl teams attended the Oregon Trail League tourney on Thursday, February 23.  The NC A-team initially played Onaga in the beginning of pool play.  NC won 70-30. Later, the A-team faced Doniphan West. It was a close game, but NC pulled through with 60 points, beating D-West by 20. During the third round, the A-team played Troy. NC was all over the buzzers, and they won 80-10. In the final round, NC finished with Frankfort. It took awhile, but the A-team couldn't use their momentum, and lost 50-70.

The A-team made it into the semifinals, and played against Axtell. It was a tight match, but NC managed to win 60-50, which got them to the finals. In the final round, NC fought against Centralia. Centralia had an astounding A-team player, who forced NC into a loss. The game ended in an NC loss 20-90, Centralia being the victor. This resulted in NC placing second place in the OTL league tourney for eighth grade.

“We did well, but I was disappointed that we only placed second,” said Miles Stueve, an A-team player.

The NC B-team started their OTL pool play with Onaga, just as the A-team did. Although NC tried, the B-team fell behind, and lost 30-50. Then, NC squared up with D-West. With no momentum, NC lost 40-50. With two losses, NC attempted to redeem themselves while playing against Troy. They fought hard, and won 50-40. In the final game of the initial rounds, the B-team faced Frankfort. With the momentum they had, they managed to score 50 points, while holding Frankfort at 30. Because the B-team had the two losses, they did not make it into the final rounds.
