On Friday night, February 24, the eighth graders of Nemaha Central defeated the staff members in the annual Thunder Bash. The eleven staff members that participated in a friendly game of basketball were Nikki Honeyman, Ashley Carlson, Terry Stueve, Deb Kramer, Betty Peterson, Angie Bass, Cory Bass, Todd Helm, Melinda Jones, Jessica Koch, and Carla Hajek. The staff team was coached by Kelsey Scism, and Shelly Schmelzle helped lead the elementary cheerleaders.

The staff team was up against 16 eighth graders. The eighth graders were Hannah Buessing, Riley Rottinghaus, Camryn Boykin, Talon Isenhart, Landen Baker, Dalton Huerter, Gage Palic, Miles Stueve, Hannah Macke, Kari Heideman, Cassidy Corby, Cameron Lewis, Evan Schmitz, Cole Engelken, Brady Stallbaumer, and Wyatt Rusche. The eighth grade team was coached by Ashlyn Steinlage, Nyah Heinen, and Cierra Lambrecht.

The annual Thunder Bash is held each year to raise money for the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The admission fee was either two dollars or a two-liter bottle of soda. The sixth graders also held a Pay-It-Forward concession stand where they sold cans of soda and other snacks. The money raised went for playground equipment for NEK-CAP. Other than the admission fee, there were several other things the students could do to help raise money. In between quarters, the students could pay a dollar to get in line to shoot a free throw. Anyone who made a free throw would get one of the two-liters brought in. The students and parents could also give players from either the eighth grade team or the staff team money and each dollar was equal to a point on that team's score. By the end of the game, with all the money added on, the score was 199-96. The eighth grade team had won for the fifth year in a row. All together the bash raised over seven hundred dollars for the PTO. Thanks to all who came out to support the Thunder PTO, staff, and students of NC!
