On Thursday, January 23, the Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team took on the town rivals, the SPPS Trojans. The A-Team had a great start by Landen Baker making 2 shots and Kurtis Beck hitting a 3, that gave NC a lead 5-0. SPPS answered back with some baskets and after the first quarter was over NC had the lead 7 to 6. The second quarter started and NC had a rough time, by the end of the 2nd quarter the score NC was down 13 to 16.

At half time Kent Schnakenberg talked about his mission to spread awareness of the symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes.

The start of the 3rd quarter was pretty good. Sam McWilliams hit a 3 in the quarter and several other teammates contributed to the 10 points scored. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was all tied up 23 to 23. The 4th quarter wasn't so good for NC, the Thunder only scored 3 points in the quarter to SPPS's 11. The end of the game score was NC 26 SPPS 34.

"Now we know what not to do," said Marcus Beck.

The Thunder boys B-Team had an unsuccessful night also. The NC boys started off pretty good scoring a few baskets in the 1st quarter to make the score NC 6,  SPPS 9. To start the 2nd quarter NC's offense fell apart as they were held scoreless to SPPS's 8 points. At halftime the score was 6-17 with SPPS's lead increasing. To start the 3rd quarter NC started pretty good with Mo Hilbert scoring a basket, but that was the only offense the Thunder could get going. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score, the SPPS lead was twenty points. The 4th quarter was not much better, however, the Thunder team was able to score 4 points, while SPPS added 11 points to their score.  The game ended in a 39-12 loss for the Thunder boys.

"We were doing pretty good at the beginning, then we stopped trying,  now we know that we need to try the whole game," said Mo Hilbert.
