The NCMS girls basketball team hit the court for the first time in the new year on Thursday, January 5th. That night the Thunder went up against the Wetmore Cardinals. It was a victorious night for both A-team and B-Team.

Already off to a great start, the A-team girls scored six points in the first quarter, making the score 6-2. Many shots were taken in the first quarter. Ashlyn Steinlage shot two free throws and made one, Hannah Macke also shot two free throws making one as well. In addition to the free throws, Ashlyn scored four other points. The second quarter went just as well as the first. Kari Heideman made two shots and Cassidy Corby made one. In the third quarter, Thunder played spectacular offense scoring a total of seventeen points. Hannah Macke made a total of three shots, as well as Taryn Ganstrom. Taryn also shot two free throws and made both. Camryn Boykin made a shot for the Thunder team making it their best quarter of the night. In the fourth quarter things started to slow down and the Thunder scored three points ending the game with a score of 32-16. It was a fantastic night for our A-team girls.

"We played really well and executed our press," said Ashlyn Steinlage.

The B-team girls' game went just as well as the A-team game. In the first half, they scored 16 points, while Wetmore only scored 5. The girls kept playing and had a great lead. After halftime, Wetmore began to catch up. The Thunder had to work even harder to maintain their lead. The girls continued shooting, and so did Wetmore. It became a closer game with the final score being 30-23. Another win snatched by the Thunder girls.

"The game was kind of confusing with new refs, but in the end we worked hard and got a win," said Rachel Schmitz.

It was a victorious night for all NCMS girls. All the girls played well and worked hard. They are now preparing for their final games and the Oregon Trail League Tournament.
