On Thursday, January 5, the Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team played the Wetmore Cardinals. The NC A-team played exceptionally well in the first quarter, scoring 10 points compared to the Cardinals' 1 point. The second quarter wasn't that great for the Thunder as they only scored 4 points, yet it kept them ahead, as the Cardinals only scored 2. The stands were filled with suspense as the second half began. In the third quarter, the Thunder lit it up offensively scoring 13 points, while the Cardinals only added 4 points to their score. The Thunder felt invincible in the final quarter, but fell hard. They didn't score a single point. in the quarter. The Wetmore Cardinals scored 6 to close the scoring gap a bit. Thankfully, the Thunder A-team prevailed in the end winning the game 27-13.

"We didn't play well offensively, but the defense managed to pull a win through," said Evan Schmitz.

The Thunder B-team boys played very well. In the first quarter, the Cardinals left the Thunder with no leeway, but the Thunder outscored the Cardinals in that quarter, 8-7. As the second quarter began, the Thunder started playing defensively, and held the Cardinals to 3 points, while scoring 6 points themselves. After preparing for the second half, the teams are back on the court and they continue fighting for the win. The Thunder boys pulled ahead in the third quarter, scoring 7 points in contrast to the defense allowing only 4 points to reach the Cardinals scoreboard. One quarter left, and the winners will be decided. At the end of the final quarter, the Thunder offense had shoved themselves through the defense and made their best score of the game. The Thunder won the quarter 10-8. The NC B-team were victorious in the game 31-22.

The Thunder played very well. You can imagine they practiced very hard for this game, and their practice payed off in this game. These boys are very passionate about the game and plan to win the Oregon Trail League championship in the near future.

"We could sit here and brag about how good we are, but I'd rather work on making us even better," said Israel Padilla.
