The school geography bee was held at Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School on Thursday, December 15.  Two students from each grade were chosen based on a classroom competition along with the next top two scorers.  The participants for the school geography bee were Holden Bass and Abe Hilbert, fifth grade; Lilly Schultejans and Garrett Huerter, sixth grade; Taryn Bergman and Kaleb Reitz, seventh grade; Miles Stueve and Evan Schmitz, eighth grade; and the wild card participants were Jacob Macke and Cameron Lewis, eighth grade.

Students had to answer a variety of U.S. and World Geography questions, some oral and some paper/pencil.  After two rounds, students were dismissed if they had missed two questions.  After a few rounds, the remaining participants were Miles and Garrett.  The next round consisted of a series of 3 questions.  The first question, they both answered correctly, while the second question, they both answered incorrectly.  The final question of the series was answered correctly by Miles.

Miles will now take a written test that will be submitted to the National Geography Bee.  If he has one of the top 100 scores in Kansas, he will get to participate in the State Geography Bee.

Congratulations to all the participants and good luck to Miles!
