Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School took time out of their school day to thank local Veterans on Friday, November 11. The Veterans' Day Program kicked off with the color guard followed by all the veterans. The program began with a welcome from Mrs. Renee McKernan. Shortly after the welcome, with the help of some students, the rest of the students, staff, and veterans all stood up, put their hands over their hearts, and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Next, kinderprep teacher, Melinda Jones lead the school in the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Then, Alan Mueting said a short prayer after the Star Spangled Banner. Four groups of 7th and 8th graders shared a quick view of their Unsung Heroes Presentations. When all the presentations were done, the veterans introduced themselves and stated what Branch of Service they were in and when they served. Alan Mueting then got back up to the podium and started the Roll Call. Gaige Parker and Laura Waller played the TAPS in honor of the soldiers that lost their lives. After the TAPS, a video with local veterans was viewed. After the video, all the students stood up and snag "God Bless the USA" for the veterans and waved red, white, and blue pinwheels. To end the program, a presentation was made about the money raised at the school to the Veterans' Wall and to the Hall of Honor.
"I like the Veterans' Day Program because it is fun to see all the people that have risked their lives for our country," said 2nd grade student, Kyler Ganstrom.
"I think that the veterans really appreciated the program," said 4th grade student, Bianca Frye.
