On Thursday, October 6, the Nemaha Central volleyball team won their last regular season match against St. Mary's. The 8th grade A-Team match took place at the high school. The 8th grade A-Team played an excellent two sets. The first set was won by the Thunder, 25-17. There were a lot of great plays in the second set by both teams, however the Thunder prevailed defeating the Bears, 25-15, giving the Thunder a victory for their last regular match of the season.

While the 8th grade A-team was playing, another match was being played on the other end of the gym. The 7th grade A-Team had a tough battle. The first set was not one of their best. They ended the set, 25-10, with the Thunder losing the set. The next set was even worse for the Thunder. The set ended, 25-4, giving the Bears the win.

"We could have played better, but I'm still proud of how our season went," said Katelyn Ohlsen, seventh grader.

After those matches were finished the crowd went over to the middle school to watch the 8th grade B-Team. The Thunder let the Bears get an eight point lead. The Thunder tried to make a come back, but the Bears were too many points ahead for the Thunder to catch up. The set finished, 18-25, with the Thunder losing the set. After the loss to the Bears in the first set, the Thunder stepped it up and gave the Bears a tougher battle. The Thunder won the second set, 25-21. There were many great plays made in the third set by the Thunder and NC was able to win the close third set, 15-13.

"The first set was not our best, but I think that we played a little better in the last two sets. I am glad that we ended our season with a win," said Malissa Deters, eighth grade.

The final game of the night was the 7th grade B-Team. The Thunder had quite a few great plays, but so did the other team. The Thunder lost the set in an extra point situation, 24-26. In the second set, they redeemed their loss in the first set and won the second set, 25-15. The Thunder put up a tremendous fight in the third set, but they lost, 13-15.

"The St. Mary's game was intense. The momentum shifted from one team to another the entire match as the girls worked hard to try to take the lead. It was an exciting end-of-season game!" said Coach Deb Kramer.
