NCEMS Careers on Wheels

By Niehues, Laurie

October 05, 2016

On a crisp and cool Wednesday morning, September 28, the Nemaha Central Elementary School parking lot was converted to a “Careers on Wheels” event for the students in Kindergarten thru 5th Grade.  Students got to listen to presenters talk about their career and how they use their vehicle as part of that job.  They then asked questions and were able to crawl into some of the vehicles and explore them a little more closely. Presenters showed some of their tools and equipment, as well.

Some of the goals of the career event were to introduce students to a variety of careers, to help students learn the connection between their studies and how they are applied to the world of work, and to expose students to positive career role models.

Participating in the event were Police Chief Jordan Weaver who brought his patrol vehicle, Brett Haverkamp and Robert Ohlsen of the Seneca Fire Department who brought a fire truck, Clete Kramer representing Nemaha County Co-op’s Mr. Tire and sharing an on-farm tire repair truck, Larry Burden from Fairview Express who brought a semi truck, Ryan Hammes of Hammes Seed who showed the students a sprayer, and Jessica Stallbaumer of Seneca Vet Clinic who shared a veterinarian’s truck.
