The Nemaha Central Middle School football team played their first game in Rossville against the Bulldogs on Thursday, September 1. The NC Thunder team consists of twelve 8th graders and thirteen 7th graders and is coached by Hadden Hiltgen and assisted by Todd Helm. The managers are Trenton Heiman and Andrew Frye.

The game started with Rossville scoring early in the first few minutes when a Rossville player ran a sweep across the left side.  This gave the Thunder an eight point deficit in the first quarter.

In the next quarter, their dominant quarterback, the brother of Tucker Horak, ran the ball and scored on a 68 yard run. Tucker Horak is a Penn State walk-on and is the starting quarterback for the team.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs scored twice. Even though Nemaha Central was losing they had this spark and started playing a lot better.

The last quarter of the game the Thunder held the Bulldogs scoreless. Rossville came away with the victory, 30-0.

The game was a good learning curve and the Thunder knows what they did wrong so they can work on getting better in practice.

Kaleb Reitz said, “Even though we lost we played a good game.”

Wyatt Rusche said, “Even though it was only our first game, we played a good team.”
