NCMS Football Team Wins Close Game with SPPS

    The Nemaha Central Middle School faced off against their town rivals, the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School on Thursday, September 8.  The first quarter had a lot of action with the Thunder team scoring the first touchdown of the game.  However, the Thunder was unable to get the two-point conversion making the score 6-0. SPPS rallied back scoring the next touchdown and scoring the two-point conversion giving them the lead, 8-6. The Thunder answered one more time in the quarter, regaining the lead 12 to 8. In the second quarter of play, tough defense kept both teams scoreless and the halftime score was 12-8.

     In the third quarter, the teams battled back and forth, but neither team was able to score. As the game entered the final quarter, SPPS was able to score giving them the lead 16-12. The Thunder never gave up and came back with their own touchdown and two-point conversion, taking the lead, 20-16.  The Thunder football team picked up their first win of the season making their record 1-1.

    After the main game, a fifth quarter was played for younger players to get more experience.  In a fifth quarter game, both teams get 10 plays on offense  and defense. In this fifth quarter game, neither was able to score but they both gained some experience.

    Messiayah Nolte said, "We played a lot better than we did the last game."

    Landen Baker said, "We are happy. We won and we are ready for the next challenge."
