Special BOE Meeting, February 20, 2014

The USD 115 Board of Education met for a special meeting and public hearing on Thursday, February 20, 2014 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held in Baileyville, KS at the B&B High School main gymnasium. The meeting was held for public comment relating to the proposed closure of the B&B Junior & Senior High School building.

Board members present were: Jean Placke, David Clements, Owen Zinke, Roger Hermesch, Gary Niehues and Ilene Enneking. Jason Hammes was unable to be present.

Also in attendance were: Darrel Kohlman, Heidi Wolfgang (KMZA Radio), Matt Diehl (The Courier-Tribune), Doug Heiman, Anita Schmitz, Mike Stallbaumer, Jonathan Stallbaumer, Frank Hulsing, Justin Coup, and Colette Hermesch.

President Gary Niehues welcomed all those present and introduced the board members.

Mr. Kohlman reviewed the purpose for the public hearing, the reason for the closure of B&B JH/HS as low enrollment, and procedures for the meeting.

Gary Niehues then stated that the meeting was now open for anyone who desired to make a public comment. After a few minutes wait, no one stepped forward to make a comment. Supt. Kohlman offered some comments on questions he had received recently.

Gary Niehues then stated that the meeting was now open for verbal and/or written questions from those in attendance. There were no questions.

Supt. Kohlman explained the next step in the building closure process which will be for the Board of Education to consider a formal resolution at the next board meeting on March 10.

At 7:15, Roger Hermesch moved, Dave Clements seconded, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried, 6-0.
