With the 2012-13 school year coming to a close, the Nemaha Central Board of Education approved several items for the upcoming school year.  Student enrollment and lunch fees were approved. Changes include pre-school fees which will be $25 per semester for three-year olds and $50 per semester for four-year olds. The Raider Academy rates will increase from $4.00 a day to $5.00 a day if the student attends past 4:00. If the student is picked up before 4:00, the rate will be $2.50 per day instead of the former $2.00 per day.  All breakfast and lunch prices will increase $.10 to meet federal requirements.

Also approved were: building handbook changes as recommended; a one-year lease with Sacred Heart Church; building technology purchases; a new K-5 Math series from Houghton-Mifflin; supplemental contracts and teaching contracts for 2013-14; and two new electives, Drama and American War Studies, for Nemaha Valley Middle School.

In personnel matters, resignations were accepted from Kelly Williams, NVHS assistant football coach; Jennie Rusche, B&B girls head basketball coach; and Laurie Stallbaumer & Joan Buessing, B&B JH/SH scholars bowl coaches. A retirement notice from Paula Rottinghaus was accepted. Summer maintenance workers approved for employment were: Dane Brinker, Jordan Meyer, Trevor Heiman, Dylan Schmitz and Lindsey Lierz. Approved as the FACS and math teacher at B&B was Lindsey Moore.  Due to additional enrollment, Garry Smith was approved as the second Driver Education instructor at Nemaha Valley High. Also approved as Driver Education classroom aides were Misty Blume and Sue Rhoads.  Carla Hajek was approved as an additional summer school teacher at Nemaha Valley Elementary.  Members authorized Supt. Kohlman to hire an Information Technology specialist.

A 2002 GMC Yukon and 2007 Dodge mini-van will be replaced with the acceptance of two vehicle bids. A bid for a 2013 Grand Caravan from Nemaha Valley Motors in the amount of $22,000 was approved. A bid for a 2013 Expedition from Honeyman Ford in the amount of $30,042.10 was also approved. Members also approved the purchase of a John Deere 2320 tractor with loader and mower.

Much time was spent in discussion of the Highland Community College proposal to purchase or lease the Baileyville school building, industrial arts building and west parking lot. The board approved the process and committee formation to make mascot suggestions to the board for final approval. President Gary Niehues asked Supt. Kohlman to compile the costs of changing colors and mascot for presentation to the board at a future meeting.

The next regular monthly meeting will be Monday, June 10. Members approved a special meeting for fiscal year end business on Wednesday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m.
